The Federal Government has warned Nigerians to expect thunderstorms and moderate rainfall in several parts of the country between Sunday and Tuesday, urging residents to remain alert as varying weather conditions are expected across the regions.

The warning was contained in a three-day weather forecast issued by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) in its latest weather outlook released in Abuja.

NiMet said the forecast covers the northern, North-Central and southern parts of the country, with the intensity and timing of rainfall expected to vary from one location to another.

For Sunday, the agency predicted that the northern region would experience sunny conditions with patches of clouds and a possibility of early morning thunderstorms in some areas.

According to the forecast, light rainfall may occur in parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Borno, Taraba and Adamawa states.

The agency advised residents in affected areas to pay attention to subsequent weather updates, particularly as thunderstorms could develop rapidly and result in temporary disruptions to movement and outdoor activities.

NiMet’s forecast forms part of its routine effort to provide early weather information to the public and relevant authorities to support preparedness and reduce the potential impact of adverse weather conditions.

The agency is expected to provide further details on conditions across the North-Central and southern parts of the country as the three-day forecast progresses.

Residents are encouraged to exercise caution during periods of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, especially motorists and pedestrians who may encounter reduced visibility, slippery roads and localized flooding.

The weather advisory comes amid continued rainfall across several parts of Nigeria, highlighting the need for individuals, businesses and public authorities to remain prepared for changing weather conditions.

NiMet’s forecast is particularly relevant to communities in areas prone to flash floods and other weather-related hazards, as rainfall intensity can change quickly during the rainy season.

The Federal Government urged Nigerians to remain informed through official weather updates and take appropriate precautions whenever thunderstorms or heavy rainfall are forecast in their areas.
