Popular broadcast journalist Rufai Oseni has challenged NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi to provide Nigerians with a clearer explanation of his political strategy and roadmap ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying voters deserve more than campaign rhetoric.

Speaking during a political discussion on national television, Oseni argued that while Obi continues to enjoy significant public support, particularly among young Nigerians, there is a growing need for the former Anambra State governor to clearly articulate how he intends to translate his vision into practical governance if given another opportunity to contest for the presidency.

According to Oseni, political campaigns should move beyond slogans and emotional appeal to detailed policy discussions that address the country’s pressing socio-economic and security challenges.

He noted that Nigerians are increasingly interested in understanding the implementation strategies behind campaign promises, especially in areas such as economic recovery, job creation, education, healthcare, power supply and national security.

Oseni stressed that elections should be won on the strength of ideas and workable plans rather than popularity alone, urging all presidential hopefuls to engage citizens with concrete proposals that can be scrutinized and debated.

“Explain your strategy,” Oseni said, insisting that the electorate deserves a comprehensive blueprint that demonstrates not only what a candidate hopes to achieve but also how those goals will be accomplished.

The journalist also emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in political communication, noting that Nigerians have become more politically aware and now demand greater clarity from those seeking public office.

His comments have generated reactions across social media, with supporters and critics of Obi offering differing opinions on the demand.

While some agreed that every presidential aspirant should present detailed implementation plans before seeking votes, others argued that Obi has consistently outlined his policy direction through interviews, speeches and public engagements over the years.

Political analysts say the debate reflects a broader shift in Nigeria’s democratic process, where voters are increasingly demanding issue-based campaigns rather than personality-driven politics.

They noted that with the 2027 elections still months away, political conversations are expected to intensify as aspirants seek to convince Nigerians of their competence and readiness to tackle the country’s numerous challenges.

Analysts also believe that candidates who communicate clear, measurable and realistic policy objectives are likely to gain greater public confidence as the election season gathers momentum.

As political activities continue to build across the country, observers say Nigerians will expect all major contenders not just Peter Obi to present comprehensive governance strategies that can be assessed on merit before the next presidential election.
