Ademola Lookman

Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has provided a highly positive injury update regarding Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman.

Simeone expects the dynamic attacker to return to action this weekend after sustaining a minor knock during the team’s recent Copa del Rey final defeat.

Lookman was unexpectedly substituted late in the cup final, which initially raised fears of a serious injury among the fans.

However, the club later clarified that he only experienced minor physical discomfort. The 28-year-old was immediately placed on an individual recovery program as a strict precaution and missed the midweek Spanish league game against Elche.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s crucial home fixture against Athletic Bilbao, Simeone expressed great confidence in the forward’s quick recovery.

“It’s possible that both Sørloth and Lookman will be available on Saturday, based on what the doctors are saying,” Simeone stated to the press.

This positive injury update serves as a massive boost for Atlético Madrid as they actively prepare for a huge UEFA Champions League semi-final showdown against Arsenal next week.

Following their recent Copa del Rey disappointment and an inconsistent domestic campaign, the Champions League remains their only realistic path to securing major silverware this season.

Ademola Lookman has been a vital player for the Spanish giants since he joined the club in January.

He famously scored the decisive goal in their thrilling 3-2 aggregate victory over FC Barcelona in the previous European round.

The Nigerian star currently boasts three goals and four assists in 13 Champions League appearances this season.

This brings his career total in the prestigious competition to eight goals, trailing only behind fellow Nigerians Victor Osimhen and Obafemi Martins. The club hopes his return to full fitness will help drive their European ambitions over the finish line.
