The All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled a revised Presidential Campaign Council list featuring Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu; Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; and former ministerial nominee, Dr Maryam Shetty, as the ruling party prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The revised list brings together government officials, party leaders and political figures from different geopolitical zones, in a move aimed at strengthening the party’s campaign structure and expanding its reach across the country.

The inclusion of the four prominent figures highlights the APC’s efforts to consolidate support in regions where it faces strong political competition, particularly the South-East, South-South and North-West.

Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State, is expected to contribute to the party’s mobilisation efforts in the South-East, where the APC has historically faced challenges in building a strong electoral base.

His inclusion also reinforces the party’s reliance on elected officials and regional political figures to engage voters and strengthen its grassroots structures ahead of the presidential poll.

Wike’s presence on the list is another notable development, given his political background in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his position as FCT minister in the APC-led Federal Government.

The former Rivers State governor remains an influential political figure in the South-South, making his inclusion potentially significant to the ruling party’s efforts to expand its support in the region.

Keyamo, a prominent APC loyalist and member of Tinubu’s administration, is also expected to contribute to the campaign’s public communication and media engagement.

His experience in political messaging and public advocacy could prove useful as the party seeks to communicate its policies and respond to criticism from opposition parties.

Shetty’s inclusion is expected to strengthen the APC’s engagement with women and young voters, particularly in Kano State and the wider North-West.

A medical doctor and politician, Shetty was nominated for a ministerial position in 2023, but the nomination was subsequently withdrawn. She has remained active in the APC’s political activities and support efforts for the Tinubu administration.

Her supporters have highlighted her involvement in grassroots mobilisation, public enlightenment and community-based empowerment initiatives as part of her contributions to the party.

The revised list also includes other senators, governors and party chieftains, reflecting the APC’s intention to draw on its political structures and influential figures nationwide.

The development comes as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, with mobilisation, coalition-building and public messaging expected to feature prominently in the coming months.

However, the effectiveness of the revised campaign structure will depend on the council’s ability to coordinate its members, mobilise voters and translate political support into electoral gains.

The APC’s preparations will also take place amid public debate over the administration’s economic policies, security challenges and the cost of living, issues likely to influence voters’ decisions at the polls.

The revised campaign council is expected to play a central role in coordinating the ruling party’s efforts to secure another presidential term for Bola Tinubu in 2027.
