President Bola Tinubu has ordered a review and reconstitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council after complaints emerged over the composition of the team unveiled on Saturday.

The development is coming barely two days after the Presidency announced the structure of the council for the 2027 presidential election, with Tinubu as chairman, Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda as vice chairmen, and former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari as Director-General.

Sources familiar with the development said the President has directed the leadership of the National Assembly, the APC National Working Committee and the Presidency to work together on a fresh arrangement that would address concerns over the balance and effectiveness of the initial list.

The sources said Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, is expected to play a central coordinating role in the review.

The move followed concerns from party stakeholders who reportedly felt that some influential politicians and experienced campaign operators were missing from the first structure.

Among those whose absence generated questions were Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; former Minister of Sports and former Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong; and National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

The omission of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, also reportedly attracted attention, particularly because of his position as one of the highest-ranking APC political figures from the South-East.

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, was also said to have been left outside the initial arrangement, adding to concerns about the representation of key political constituencies.

The original council was presented as a broad campaign structure, with responsibilities covering mobilisation, media, finance, security, grassroots engagement, youth and women mobilisation, among other areas. The published list also included serving governors, lawmakers, ministers, former political office holders and professionals.

However, party sources said the size of the council alone did not settle concerns about political representation, with some stakeholders questioning whether influential figures with established networks and previous election experience had been adequately integrated.

The latest intervention therefore appears aimed at preventing disagreements over the campaign structure from becoming a wider party issue as the 2027 election season gathers momentum.

The decision also underscores the political importance being attached to the campaign council, which is expected to coordinate the APC’s efforts to secure Tinubu’s re-election.

The President’s move comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 polls. Reuters reported last week that Tinubu’s re-election bid is placing the APC under increased scrutiny as the party prepares for a highly competitive election.

A revised campaign council list is expected to reflect further consultations among the Presidency, the APC leadership and the National Assembly, although the timing of the new announcement was not immediately clear.

The immediate focus within the ruling party is now on producing a structure that combines political reach, campaign experience and broader regional representation without creating fresh grievances among influential APC stakeholders.
