The Kebbi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Augie as the new running mate to Governor Nasir Idris for the 2027 governorship election.
The announcement was made on Sunday at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi by the APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, during a thank-you visit by stakeholders from the Argungu Emirate to the governor.
Argungu said the decision to replace the incumbent Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida Arugungu, was based on professional legal advice regarding his eligibility to contest as the governor’s running mate in the 2027 election.
“The present Deputy Governor was dropped as the running mate to Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu for the 2027 general election based on professional legal advice,” he said.

He subsequently announced Augie as the party’s new choice for the position, urging APC members and supporters to accept the decision and remain united ahead of the election.
According to Argungu, the decision was taken with the knowledge and consent of the outgoing deputy governor, stressing that it should not be interpreted as evidence of a disagreement between Governor Idris and Tafida.
He appealed to politicians and party stakeholders across the state to work together to ensure the APC retains power in Kebbi in 2027.
Governor Idris, speaking with journalists after the event, also dismissed speculation of a rift between him and his deputy.
The governor said the change was not an indication of a political disagreement and assured party members that he would work closely with Augie ahead of the 2027 election.
He urged APC supporters to remain focused on the development of Kebbi State and avoid actions capable of creating division within the party.
Augie, who hails from Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State, previously served as Commissioner for Finance during the administration of former Governor Atiku Bagudu.
His selection brings a new political configuration to the APC’s 2027 governorship ticket, with party leaders now expected to mobilise support for the governor and his new running mate across the state.
Governor Idris also expressed appreciation to the people of the Argungu Emirate for their continued support and cooperation with his administration, stressing the importance of maintaining unity as the state prepares for the next electoral cycle.
