With just 20 days remaining until the flag-off of the second edition of the Premium Trust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon, organizers have confirmed that more than 2,800 runners from across Nigeria and overseas have officially registered for the race. The growing number highlights rising excitement and solidifies Abuja’s reputation as an emerging destination for international distance-running events.
The annual event, organised by Nilayo Sports Management Limited in partnership with PremiumTrust Bank, has continued to attract elite athletes, recreational joggers, corporate teams, fitness groups, and families eager to participate in one of the fastest-growing half marathons in West Africa. Registration numbers are expected to exceed last year’s turnout as more athletes finalize their entries in the coming days.
Nilayo Sports Management Limited announced on Monday that preparations have reached advanced stages, with logistics teams working to ensure smooth coordination of security, hydration points, medical support, route management, and athlete services. The organisers say all operational components are being fine-tuned to deliver a world-class race experience.

Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Adenike Olopade, assured participants that the race-day environment will meet international standards. She praised the dedication of the entire organising unit and commended the Managing Director of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, for her leadership and strategic oversight.
“We are fully prepared and excited to welcome thousands of runners to Abuja,” she said. “The team has worked tirelessly, and we appreciate the visionary leadership of our MD, Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, whose passion for excellence continues to elevate Nigeria’s road race landscape.”
The PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon debuted in 2024, earning widespread commendation for its professional execution, impressive turnout, and positive impact on local tourism. This year’s edition, themed “Steady Strides,” builds on that foundation, aiming to further strengthen community engagement, expand sports tourism, and encourage healthier lifestyles among residents and visitors.
Organizers say the 2025 route will highlight key neighborhoods and landmarks in the Federal Capital Territory, offering participants scenic views of the city while benefiting from efficiently managed traffic controls. Abuja residents are expected to line the streets to cheer on runners, adding to the festive atmosphere.
This year’s race will feature multiple categories to accommodate elite and amateur runners, corporate challengers, fitness clubs, and families interested in participating in a non-competitive format. Prizes will be awarded to winners across several classifications, while all registered runners will receive official race kits, including bib numbers, branded shirts, and timing chips.
PremiumTrust Bank, the headline sponsor, reaffirmed its commitment to sports development in Nigeria, noting that events like the Abuja Half Marathon play a key role in discovering talent, promoting fitness, and strengthening national unity through sports.
As the countdown continues, organisers have encouraged registered runners to intensify their training and follow official communication channels for updates on race packs, expo dates, and final route announcements.
With momentum building and participation soaring, the 2025 PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon is set to deliver another memorable edition for runners and spectators alike.
