Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Paris, France, for Nigeria, bringing his extended working vacation in Europe to a close, according to the Presidency.

The President is expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos later today, September 29, 2026, where he will begin a series of engagements before returning to Abuja.

The Presidency said Tinubu chose Lagos as his first destination because of his planned participation in activities commemorating the life and legacy of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, a central figure in Nigeria’s democratic struggle.

On October 1, Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, Tinubu is scheduled to attend the premiere of a film celebrating Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos.

Beyond the anniversary programme, the President is expected to hold meetings with political leaders and associates during his stay in Lagos.

The meetings come as political parties and political actors increasingly turn their attention to preparations for the 2027 general elections. The Presidency said Tinubu would later return to Abuja after concluding his Lagos engagements.

Tinubu left Abuja on August 30 for his annual break, initially spending about a week in London before travelling to Paris.

His stay in the French capital combined private engagements with meetings involving business and investment figures.

Among those he met was French businessman Vincent Bolloré, whose business interests include media and digital investments. The President also held a meeting with businessman Femi Otedola, Chairman of First Holdings.

Tinubu also attended a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron during his stay in Paris.

The Presidency has also linked the President’s European engagements to investment discussions, including the proposed development of a deep seaport and blue economy zone in Ogun State.

Last week, Tinubu witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the proposed Gateway Deep Seaport at Ogun Waterside and the development of a Blue Marine Economic Zone.

The project is expected to attract an investment of about $7 billion from DP World, one of the world’s major port and logistics operators.

Tinubu’s return also marks the next phase of his domestic schedule after weeks away from Nigeria. Vice President Kashim Shettima had represented the President at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York during his absence.

The Presidency had earlier confirmed that Tinubu’s return date was adjusted to September 29, with Lagos designated as his arrival point before his subsequent return to Abuja.

TheTrafficNG will continue to follow the President’s Lagos engagements, including the Independence Day programme and his scheduled meetings in the commercial capital.
