The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has reportedly deployed 2,500 personnel as part of measures to support safe movement and traffic management during the Osun State election.

The deployment is expected to strengthen road safety operations, manage traffic around strategic locations and respond to emergencies before, during and after the exercise.

The move comes as security and election-management agencies intensify preparations for the poll, with authorities seeking to prevent disruptions and ensure that voters, officials and other stakeholders can move safely across the state.

FRSC personnel are expected to work around major routes, election-related hotspots and areas likely to experience increased vehicular movement.

Their responsibilities will include traffic control, emergency response, enforcement of road safety regulations and assistance to road users during the election period.

The corps’ involvement is particularly important because elections often generate increased movement of voters, political supporters, electoral officials, observers, journalists and security personnel.

FRSC operations could therefore help reduce avoidable road crashes and congestion that might arise from the heightened movement.

The agency’s deployment is also expected to complement the broader security arrangements being put in place by relevant authorities for the election.

FRSC has extensive operational experience in traffic management and emergency response. Its statistical records show thousands of road safety personnel and significant operational deployments across states, including Osun.

Ahead of the poll, motorists are expected to exercise caution, obey traffic regulations and cooperate with officers deployed along major roads.

The corps is also likely to pay particular attention to speeding, dangerous overtaking, overloading, driving under the influence and other practices that could increase the risk of crashes during the busy election period.

Election-related movements can also create temporary traffic bottlenecks, especially around polling centres and major transport corridors. Effective traffic management will therefore be crucial to keeping roads open and reducing delays.

The deployment is coming at a time when election authorities and security agencies are under pressure to ensure that citizens can exercise their franchise without unnecessary disruptions.

For voters, the presence of road safety personnel is expected to provide additional reassurance, particularly for those travelling between communities to participate in the election.

The FRSC has also advised road users generally to cooperate with its personnel and avoid behaviour capable of creating unnecessary danger.

With thousands of personnel deployed, the focus will be on maintaining orderly traffic, responding quickly to emergencies and supporting a safe environment for the electoral process.

Authorities are expected to sustain coordination among the various agencies throughout the election period.
