President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appealed to residents of Rivers State to support his re-election bid in 2027, promising to consolidate economic reforms, improve infrastructure and expand opportunities for young Nigerians.

Tinubu made the appeal on Saturday during the Rainbow Coalition Presidential Campaign Rally at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, where he thanked Rivers voters for supporting his emergence as President in the 2023 general election.

The President said he returned to the state to appreciate the people for their previous support and seek another mandate to continue implementing his administration’s development agenda.

“I came purposely to thank you. Thank you on behalf of the All Progressives Congress, our party. Your response to our call has been great. But thank you for the last election, 2022-2023,” Tinubu said.

He described Rivers residents as important contributors to his political success, noting that their votes helped secure the mandate he currently holds.

The President maintained that his administration had begun laying the foundation for economic prosperity, insisting that Nigerians would gradually experience the benefits of ongoing reforms.

Tinubu said youth development remained a major priority of his government, particularly in education, welfare and skills acquisition.

He urged young Nigerians to take responsibility for their political future by participating in the electoral process and obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

“To the youth of Nigeria, this election is about you. It’s not all me. Your future depends on this election. It is left for you to use the weapon you have, and that weapon is the PVC. If you have not collected yours, please go ahead and collect it,” he said.

Defending his administration’s economic policies, Tinubu claimed that 27 of Nigeria’s 36 states were unable to pay salaries when he assumed office, arguing that his government’s reforms had helped reverse the situation.

He also said the Federal Government was addressing outstanding pension and gratuity obligations inherited from previous administrations.

According to him, retired professionals, including engineers, welders and teachers, were benefiting from payments being made to clear outstanding entitlements.

The President also criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his comments on hunger and economic hardship, accusing him of being part of the political leadership responsible for challenges facing the country.

Tinubu questioned how Atiku financed the establishment of a university while serving as vice president, arguing that public resources were involved.

Turning to Rivers State politics, the President commended Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his contributions to infrastructure development and his cooperation with the Federal Government.

He described Wike as a development partner of his administration and praised his commitment to national infrastructure projects.

Tinubu also thanked Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his maturity and cooperation during the political crisis that affected the state.

He said his intervention in the dispute was aimed at restoring peace and stability, adding that Fubara’s response helped maintain calm.

The President urged Rivers residents to sustain the atmosphere of peace and political cooperation, while appealing for support for his second-term ambition.

He concluded by thanking the people for their hospitality and reaffirming his commitment to Nigeria’s development.
