Nkechi Blessing Sunday

Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday and former Big Brother Naija winner Josephina Ijeoma Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, are set to take their ongoing public dispute into the boxing ring.

The pair will face each other in a celebrity boxing match scheduled for October 1, 2026, at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos State.

The planned showdown was announced by event organisers, Balmoral, in an Instagram post on Friday evening, confirming the two entertainers as participants in the upcoming bout.

Sharing the promotional poster, the organisers wrote: “Plot twist? Let’s see what the women can do. Phyna VS Nkechi.”

The announcement has added a new dimension to the disagreement between the two celebrities, which has previously played out publicly.

Rather than another exchange on social media, the latest development will see the pair settle their differences in a controlled boxing event designed to combine entertainment with sporting competition.

Both women are prominent figures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, although they rose to fame through different platforms.

Nkechi Blessing is an established Nollywood actress known for her roles in Yoruba and English-language productions, while Phyna became a household name after winning the 2022 edition of Big Brother Naija.

Since her reality-show victory, Phyna has remained active in entertainment, building a substantial public profile and following.

The upcoming bout is expected to attract considerable attention because of the personalities involved and the public nature of their disagreement.

Celebrity boxing events have increasingly become a crossover between entertainment and combat sports, bringing together personalities whose existing public profiles generate interest beyond conventional boxing audiences.

For the October 1 event, the attraction is likely to extend beyond the contest itself, with fans watching to see how the two celebrities perform inside the ring after their public exchanges.

Balmoral did not provide further details in the announcement on the rules governing the contest, the number of rounds, weight categories or the training arrangements for the participants.

It was also not immediately clear whether the event would form part of a larger celebrity boxing card featuring other entertainers.

The announcement, however, has already set the stage for a highly publicised encounter between two women with strong followings in Nigeria’s entertainment space.

With the fight scheduled for October 1, attention will now shift to preparations for the bout and whether the rivalry between Phyna and Nkechi Blessing will translate into competitive action when they meet in the ring.
