Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned a TETFund/Renewed Hope Initiative ICT Experience Centre at Kwara State University, Malete, as part of efforts to expand digital learning opportunities for Nigerian students.

The facility was commissioned on Tuesday on behalf of the First Lady by the wife of the Vice-President, Hajia Nana Shettima.

The centre is designed to provide students with access to modern digital infrastructure while supporting research, innovation, entrepreneurship and technology-driven learning.

Speaking through Nana Shettima, Mrs Tinubu said the facility represented an investment in the future of young Nigerians and was intended to provide students with opportunities to develop and showcase their talents.

She said the initiative was aligned with the Federal Government’s broader efforts to strengthen education, digital skills and youth empowerment.

The centre includes ICT laboratory facilities, interactive digital displays, conference facilities and exhibition spaces intended to support practical learning and collaboration.

According to reports, the digital learning programme is also being expanded to additional tertiary institutions across the country, with similar centres planned in 15 other states.

The Kwara State University facility forms part of a broader TETFund and Renewed Hope Initiative intervention aimed at improving access to technology in higher education.

The project is expected to give students and researchers a platform to acquire practical digital skills, develop technological solutions and pursue innovative ideas that could contribute to employment and economic development.

The initiative also reflects the increasing emphasis on digital competencies in Nigeria’s education system as universities and other tertiary institutions respond to changes in the technology-driven economy.

Officials of Kwara State University, TETFund and the state government attended the commissioning ceremony.

The First Lady’s intervention through the Renewed Hope Initiative has increasingly focused on education, skills development and opportunities for young people.

The Kwara centre is expected to serve not only students of the university but also provide a platform for research, innovation and technology-based collaboration within the institution and its wider community.
