President Bola Tinubu’s daughter, Mujidat Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, has urged Nigerians not to vote for former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar or Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the 2027 general election.

Tinubu-Ojo said electing either opposition figure could reverse what she described as the progress recorded under her father’s administration.

She made the appeal in Abuja while launching the Iyaloja General Movement for Renewed Hope Initiatives, a platform aimed at mobilising support for President Tinubu’s policies and political agenda.

The President’s daughter called on Nigerians to remain supportive of the administration, arguing that a change in leadership could undermine the direction of the country’s current economic and governance reforms.

She acknowledged that government policies had made life difficult for many Nigerians but expressed optimism that the situation would improve with time.

According to her, the current difficulties should not be viewed in isolation from the administration’s broader efforts to reposition the economy and address longstanding national challenges.

Her comments come as political activities and early mobilisation efforts gather momentum ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with the ruling All Progressives Congress expected to face opposition parties seeking to unseat Tinubu.

Atiku, who contested against Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, has remained a prominent opposition figure. Obi, who represented the Labour Party in the same election, also retains a significant political following.

Both politicians have been critical of aspects of the Tinubu administration, particularly its economic policies and their impact on households and businesses.

Tinubu-Ojo’s remarks place her among supporters of the President who are making public appeals for his re-election, as the APC seeks to consolidate its political base across the country.

The Iyaloja General Movement for Renewed Hope Initiatives is expected to use its platform to promote the administration’s programmes and mobilise support, particularly among market women and traders.

However, the President’s daughter’s acknowledgement of the economic hardship facing Nigerians highlights one of the major issues likely to shape public debate and voter decisions ahead of the next general election.

The 2027 presidential contest is expected to feature intense competition over the economy, security, infrastructure and the performance of the current administration.
