Nigeria Immigration Service NIS

The Nigeria Immigration Service NIS has deployed a dedicated intervention team to the United Kingdom as part of efforts to clear outstanding passport applications and improve passport services for Nigerians in the diaspora.

The exercise is expected to target pending applications and provide services at designated locations and venues announced by the immigration authorities.

The intervention follows concerns over delays in passport processing, which have affected Nigerians living in the UK and created difficulties for citizens requiring valid travel documents.

The NIS said the deployment was designed to provide a direct response to the backlog while improving access to immigration services for Nigerians outside the country.

Under the arrangement, affected applicants are expected to visit designated centres on specified dates to complete outstanding processes and resolve issues associated with their applications.

The initiative is also aimed at reducing pressure on existing passport service channels and ensuring that Nigerians in the UK can access government documentation without unnecessary delays.

Passport services remain particularly important for Nigerians in the diaspora because valid passports are required for international travel, immigration procedures, identification and other official transactions.

The intervention team is expected to work with relevant Nigerian diplomatic and consular authorities to streamline the process and attend to applicants whose requests remain pending.

The move is part of broader efforts by the NIS to improve passport administration and respond to complaints over delays in obtaining travel documents.

For Nigerians living in the UK, the exercise could provide an opportunity to resolve applications that have remained outstanding and reduce waiting periods associated with passport processing.

Applicants have been advised to follow the official schedule released by the immigration authorities and appear at the designated venues with the required documents.

The exercise is expected to provide the NIS with an opportunity to identify recurring challenges affecting diaspora passport services and strengthen its procedures.

Officials have stressed that the intervention is intended to make passport processing more accessible, transparent and responsive to Nigerians living in the United Kingdom.
