President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed grief over the death of Peter Onwubuariri, an Assistant Director of Media at the Presidential Villa, describing his passing as a significant loss to the Presidency, the media community and Nigeria.

Onwubuariri, a veteran journalist and public servant, reportedly died after a prolonged illness. He had served in the media teams of three successive administrations, including those of former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari, as well as the current administration.

In a condolence message, President Tinubu commended the late journalist for his professionalism, dedication and commitment to public service throughout his career.

The President said Onwubuariri’s years of service at the Presidential Villa demonstrated his competence, integrity and ability to work effectively within the demanding environment of government communication.

He described the deceased as a dedicated journalist whose calm disposition, experience and sound judgment earned him the respect of colleagues and associates.

“Peter was a dedicated journalist and a committed public servant whose professionalism and calm disposition earned him the respect of his colleagues and associates,” Tinubu said.

According to the President, Onwubuariri’s contribution went beyond his responsibilities at the Presidential Villa, as he also made valuable contributions to journalism and national service during his career.

Onwubuariri joined the Presidential Villa in 2014 after serving with the News Agency of Nigeria, where he rose through the ranks and became an Assistant Editor-in-Chief.

Before his posting to the Villa, he also served as NAN’s North American Correspondent, covering developments of national and international importance.

During his journalism career, Onwubuariri reported extensively on foreign affairs, telecommunications, politics, finance and other critical issues.

He prayed that God Almighty would grant the family the strength to cope with the loss and grant the deceased eternal rest.

The President also acknowledged the difficult moment for members of the media community who worked with Onwubuariri during his years of service.

He urged the bereaved family to take solace in the late journalist’s contributions to journalism, public communication and national service.
