British-Nigerian heavyweight star Anthony Joshua has warned that he will maintain strict emotional composure when he squares off against Tyson Fury on December 11, explicitly vowing not to repeat the tactical errors that cost Deontay Wilder during his historic trilogy against the ‘Gypsy King’.

The two-time world champion emphasized that maintaining a cool, calculated head will be the defining factor when they collide at a sold-out Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, in a blockbuster showdown broadcast live worldwide on Netflix.

Reflecting on Fury’s previous rivalry with Wilder, where the American twice suffered defeat and drew once, Joshua pointed out that Wilder’s emotional approach and frantic attempts to secure an early finish after rocking Fury ultimately drained his physical reserves and allowed the Briton to recover.

“Wilder took those fights very personally, and that could be quite exhausting, especially when you hurt someone and try to finish them,” Joshua told The Ring’s Mike Coppinger.

“You lose a lot of energy, and then Tyson comes back. Wilder could have gotten the job done if he was a bit more calm, cool and collected. He could have learned from that. Wilder tried to take him out of there, while Fury just managed to weather the storm and come back.”

Reiterating his tactical discipline, Joshua insisted that frustration or the temptation to rush a knockout will not dictate his game plan. “I do not believe that would be me. I am going to keep a calm head.”

Beyond the intense domestic rivalry, the upcoming Cardiff clash carries massive historical stakes. Promoter Frank Warren confirmed that the World Boxing Association (WBA) super heavyweight championship belt will be on the line, presenting Joshua with the opportunity to claim a coveted third world heavyweight crown.

Achieving a third reign places a fighter in elite company alongside boxing legends Muhammad Ali, Michael Moorer, Lennox Lewis, and Vitali Klitschko, with only Evander Holyfield having captured the prestigious honor four times.

The belt became vacant after Oleksandr Usyk relinquished the title, paving the way for the long-awaited all-British showdown.

Warren added that the winner could potentially feature in major undisputed unification bouts throughout 2027. Joshua steps into the ring boasting a formidable professional ledger of 30 wins, four losses, and 27 knockouts, while Fury enters with 36 victories, two defeats, and one draw.
