The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has uncovered another allegedly fraudulent agency operating within the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF.
The discovery forms part of ongoing investigations into the activities of individuals and groups allegedly using the names of government offices and agencies to deceive members of the public and obtain money under false pretences.
The ICPC has continued to raise concerns over the activities of individuals who create or operate fake government agencies, particularly those presenting themselves as officials or representatives of legitimate institutions.
The latest discovery comes amid renewed efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen transparency, accountability and public confidence in its institutions.
Officials found to be involved in fraudulent activities could face investigation and prosecution, depending on the outcome of the commission’s findings.
The commission has also urged members of the public to exercise caution when dealing with individuals claiming to represent government agencies, especially where payments, contracts, recruitment or other official transactions are involved.
The development highlights the growing challenge posed by fraudulent organisations that exploit the names of government institutions to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
The ICPC has said investigations into the latest case will determine the identities of those behind the alleged fake agency, how long it had operated and whether any public officials were involved.
The commission’s intervention is expected to help prevent further misuse of the SGF’s office and protect members of the public from fraudulent activities carried out in the name of government.
