The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has praised the nation’s Armed Forces and security agencies for their unwavering efforts in safeguarding the country, highlighting the critical role of both service members and their families in maintaining national security.
Senator Tinubu made the remarks on Thursday while receiving the wives of the newly appointed service chiefs at the State House, Abuja. The meeting provided an opportunity for the First Lady to acknowledge the sacrifices made by the military leadership and their spouses in the ongoing fight against insecurity.
During the audience, Senator Tinubu expressed deep sadness over the recent abduction of 25 students of the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, and the tragic killing of the school’s Vice Principal. She called for a moment of silence in honor of the departed Vice Principal, describing the incident as a stark reminder of the challenges confronting the nation.
“It is very unfortunate and sad. Before we start this meeting, let us have a minute silence for the departed Vice Principal,” she said. “This incident reminds us that the service chiefs and their spouses have stepped into a new role and responsibility that demands sacrifice and support. Your husbands signed to protect the nation and lives at the expense of their own lives. I pray that they succeed with their new responsibility and that God will protect them as well.”

The First Lady emphasized the complementary role of the service chiefs’ wives, encouraging them to work alongside their husbands to meet the expectations of the Commander-in-Chief and Nigerians in the ongoing fight against insecurity. She urged them to actively support their spouses and contribute to initiatives that strengthen national resilience.
Senator Tinubu also highlighted her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) and reminded her guests that the annual RHI/Elderly Support Programme would take place across the nation in December, with veterans being among the beneficiaries. She encouraged the service chiefs’ wives to take care of the elderly beyond the scope of the program, reinforcing the value of sustained community support.
In response, Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, wife of the Inspector General of Police, commended the First Lady for her extensive efforts nationwide, particularly in empowering vulnerable groups, awarding scholarships, providing healthcare consumables, and implementing other impactful programs.
In a separate engagement, Senator Tinubu also received the management of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who decorated her as the Grand Matron of the Road Safety Special Marshal program. She thanked the Corps for the recognition and stressed the importance of adopting modern technology and enhancing inter-agency collaboration to reduce road accidents across the country.

The First Lady urged the deployment of more FRSC personnel on the roads, especially during the yuletide season, and advocated for stricter enforcement of speed limits using technology to minimize road crashes. “We need more speed limits on various roads enforced with modern technology, and increased personnel deployment during the festive season to protect lives,” she said.
Through these engagements, Senator Oluremi Tinubu reaffirmed her commitment to supporting Nigeria’s security and safety initiatives while empowering communities and vulnerable populations. Her interactions with both the service chiefs’ spouses and the FRSC highlight the critical intersection of leadership, family support, and civic responsibility in fostering a safer, more resilient nation.
