President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday declared open the 2025 All Nigerian Judges’ Conference of the Superior Courts, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening the capacity, integrity, and public trust in the nation’s judicial system.
Speaking at the Andrews Otutu Obaseki Auditorium of the National Judicial Institute (NJI) in Abuja, the President said a confident and efficient Judiciary remains indispensable to Nigeria’s democracy and national stability.
Tinubu emphasized that the government will intensify investments in judicial infrastructure, technology-driven reforms, and welfare initiatives that ensure judges carry out their duties with dignity and independence. He noted that modernising court processes through digitisation, integrated case management, and improved physical facilities is essential to reducing delays and restoring public confidence in justice delivery.
While acknowledging widespread public concerns over delays, access to justice, and integrity issues within the judicial process, the President said these perceptions—whether justified or not—must spur urgent reforms. He stressed that justice exists for the people, and the Judiciary’s legitimacy is measured by the confidence citizens place in its decisions.
The President warned that no reform would succeed without uncompromising integrity within the Bench. He said corruption in the Judiciary poses a grave threat to democracy, insisting that discipline must be firm, transparent, and consistent. His administration, he added, stands ready to support all efforts aimed at eliminating misconduct and preserving the moral authority of the courts.

Tinubu praised the Judiciary for acting as Nigeria’s stabilising force during moments of national uncertainty, noting that judicial courage has historically protected constitutional order and restrained tyranny. He urged judges to be bold during their deliberations at the conference and to commit to actionable solutions that address case backlogs, strengthen discipline, and improve access to justice, especially for vulnerable citizens.
He reaffirmed support for the National Judicial Institute as the nation’s premier centre for judicial education and continuous professional development. According to him, a Judiciary equipped with updated knowledge and evolving legal perspectives is essential for interpreting and shaping laws that uphold constitutional values.
Describing judges as guardians of Nigeria’s moral conscience and architects of her democratic future, Tinubu said the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary must work in synergy—separate in function but united in purpose. He assured judicial officers that his administration will remain a dependable partner in maintaining a fearless, functional, and principled justice system.
Declaring the conference open, the President expressed optimism that its resolutions would be transformative and reinforce the Judiciary’s role as the conscience of the nation. He concluded by praying for the continued strength and integrity of the Nigerian Judiciary and the peace and prosperity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
