Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched a ₦100 million grant programme aimed at empowering 2,000 women in Benue State, as part of efforts to support economic inclusion and grassroots development.
The initiative is designed to provide financial assistance to women engaged in small-scale businesses and agricultural activities.
Speaking at the launch event, the First Lady said the programme reflects a commitment to improving livelihoods and strengthening the role of women in nation-building. She noted that women remain central to family welfare and community stability, making their economic empowerment a national priority.
Beneficiaries were selected across various local government areas, with funds intended to help expand businesses, increase productivity, and create additional income streams. The initiative also includes mentorship and support structures to ensure sustainability.

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State commended the programme, describing it as timely given current economic challenges. He assured that the state government would complement the effort by creating a conducive environment for small businesses to thrive.
Many beneficiaries expressed gratitude, saying the grant would help them overcome financial constraints and grow their ventures. Some noted that access to capital has long been a major barrier for women entrepreneurs.
The First Lady urged recipients to use the funds responsibly and support others within their communities, stressing that empowerment should have a ripple effect.
The programme is part of a broader national effort targeting women and vulnerable groups, with similar interventions expected in other states.
