President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of soldiers from the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation HADIN KAI, following a coordinated terrorist attack on their base in Benisheikh, Borno State.
The attack, which occurred early Thursday, April 9, 2026, was confirmed by the Defence Headquarters, with reports indicating multiple casualties among the troops.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended heartfelt condolences to the Armed Forces and the families of the fallen soldiers, describing them as heroes who paid the ultimate price in defence of the nation.
Tinubu commended the bravery of the troops, noting that they fought gallantly to repel the attackers and prevent insurgents from overrunning communities in the area. He added that ongoing land and air offensives by Nigerian forces have continued to weaken insurgent groups, describing the latest attack as an act of desperation.
The President specifically paid tribute to the fallen personnel, including those led by Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah, assuring that their sacrifices would never be forgotten.
He urged military commanders and troops across all theatres of operation to remain resolute despite the loss, emphasizing that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting the Armed Forces with improved welfare and necessary equipment.

Tinubu also called on Nigerians and the media to stand firmly behind the military in its fight against insurgency and banditry, warning against any form of sympathy or glorification of attacks on security personnel.
He further extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to working with state authorities to achieve lasting peace and total victory over terrorism.
