President Tinubu Celebrates FCT, Kano, Rivers Election Winners

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated candidates who emerged victorious in Saturday’s elections conducted across the Federal Capital Territory, Kano State, and Rivers State, describing the outcome as a reaffirmation of Nigeria’s democratic resilience.

In a statement released after the polls, the President praised the winners and urged them to discharge their responsibilities with humility, patriotism, and a strong sense of duty. He emphasized that the mandate conferred by voters should be regarded as a sacred trust requiring dedication to public service and inclusive governance.

The elections, conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, covered area council contests in the FCT’s six local government councils, alongside by-elections in key state constituencies. In Rivers State, voting took place in the Ahoada East II and Khana II constituencies, while Kano State recorded contests in Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies.

President Tinubu commended the overall conduct of the elections, noting that the largely peaceful exercise reflected growing confidence in Nigeria’s electoral processes. He lauded the electoral umpire, security agencies, and citizens who participated in the vote, saying their collective efforts contributed to a successful outcome.

Highlighting developments in the capital territory, the President also acknowledged the role of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, whose performance he said had translated into tangible improvements and positive political outcomes. Tinubu further congratulated the leadership and members of the governing All Progressives Congress, particularly in Kano and Rivers, for what he described as electoral successes. He encouraged party stakeholders to remain focused on delivering the dividends of democracy and strengthening grassroots mobilization.

The President extended praise to all contestants who took part in the elections, commending their discipline and commitment to democratic ideals. He stressed that active participation and healthy competition are essential ingredients for sustaining a vibrant democracy.

Reaffirming his administration’s stance, Tinubu stated that credible elections remain central to consolidating democratic culture and institutions. He urged INEC to continue refining its systems and processes to ensure even more transparent, efficient, and exemplary elections in the future.
