Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has met with key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, urging unity, discipline, and peaceful conduct ahead of the party’s scheduled ward and local government congresses.
The meeting, held at the Sam Mbakwe Executive Chambers, Government House, Owerri, brought together party leaders, elected officials, and grassroots coordinators as preparations intensify for the nationwide internal party exercise.
Addressing attendees, Uzodinma emphasised that the success of the congresses would play a decisive role in shaping the APC’s future strength and electoral fortunes in Imo State and beyond.

“The future of our party will be determined by the outcome of this exercise. We must remain focused and committed to the ideals that have kept us strong,” the governor said.
Uzodinma, who called for harmony among members, stressed that internal cohesion remains vital to sustaining the party’s record of victories in elections. He urged stakeholders to prioritise collective interests over personal ambitions during the selection of party executives at ward and LGA levels.
According to the governor, discipline and peaceful harmonisation among aspirants are critical to preventing divisions that could weaken the party’s structure.
“Harmony and discipline among members are sure ways to sustain victory in future elections. We must ensure peaceful harmonisation among contenders,” he stated.
The governor further advised party leaders to adopt consensus-building mechanisms where necessary, noting that internal disputes often undermine party stability and electoral performance.
Political observers say the meeting reflects growing efforts by the Imo APC leadership to avoid factional tensions that have historically accompanied congresses and primaries in various states.
Stakeholders present at the session reportedly pledged commitment to conducting the congresses in a transparent and peaceful manner, while supporting measures aimed at strengthening party unity.
The upcoming congresses are expected to produce new party officials responsible for coordinating grassroots mobilisation, membership drives, and campaign structures ahead of future elections.
Uzodinma reaffirmed his administration’s support for democratic processes within the party, assuring members that fairness and inclusiveness would guide the exercise.
“Our collective responsibility is to protect the integrity of the APC and ensure that the congresses strengthen, not divide, our party,” he added.
The APC’s ward and LGA congresses form a critical component of the party’s internal democratic calendar, setting the stage for subsequent state and national conventions.
Analysts note that outcomes of the congresses often influence political alignments, leadership dynamics, and preparations for upcoming electoral cycles.
With the Imo meeting concluded, attention now shifts to how stakeholders across the state will implement the governor’s call for unity and peaceful engagement during the congresses.
