Maduka Okoye

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye delivered a masterclass performance to help Udinese secure a stunning 3-0 victory over AC Milan at the San Siro, marking a personal milestone in his Serie A career by recording his third consecutive clean sheet.

The 26-year-old Nigerian shot-stopper was the linchpin of a highly disciplined Udinese defense that successfully neutralized AC Milan’s potent attack.

Despite facing a barrage of 20 shots from the hosts, Okoye’s command of his penalty area and excellent positioning ensured that only three of those attempts were on target.

His most defining moments of the night included two crucial saves against Luka Modrić. Okoye displayed brilliant reflexes to push away a low, hard drive headed for the bottom corner and later demonstrated strong handling under intense pressure to deny the Croatian midfielder a second time.

The shutout against AC Milan completes an impressive run for Okoye, who also kept clean sheets against Genoa and Como in his preceding league fixtures.

This marks the first time in his Serie A career that he has achieved three back-to-back shutouts, underscoring a newly found consistency since his return from a thigh injury that temporarily derailed his season.

Over the course of the 2025/2026 campaign, Okoye has made 24 league appearances, tallying 2,077 minutes of action.

His underlying statistics reflect his immense value to the Udinese squad: he has kept eight clean sheets and made 67 saves with a 72 percent save rate.

Furthermore, his performance metrics show he has prevented 4.5 goals; a stat that measures performance relative to the quality of shots faced. With an expected goals-on-target figure of 30.49 against him, conceding only 26 goals demonstrates elite efficiency above expectation.

Okoye has also proven essential in Udinese’s build-up play, completing 472 passes at a success rate of 63.1 percent, including 166 accurate long balls that help transition his team from defense to attack.

This record-breaking run significantly strengthens Okoye’s grip on the number one jersey for the Nigerian national team.

Having reclaimed the top spot for the Super Eagles in March, his commanding displays in one of Europe’s top five leagues give him a firm edge over rising competitors, including Wrexham’s Arthur Okonkwo and the anticipated return of Stanley Nwabali.

Okoye’s stellar night at the San Siro highlights both his personal growth and a triumphant return to elite form at the highest levels of club and international football.
