The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced restrictions on tricycle operations during the holy month of Ramadan, citing the need to preserve religious observances and maintain public order.

Officials said the directive is intended to regulate movement during fasting hours and reduce activities deemed inconsistent with the sanctity of the period. The board noted that the measures will apply across key parts of Kano State.

According to Hisbah authorities, the policy includes adjusted operating hours and compliance requirements for commercial tricycle riders. “Ramadan is a sacred time requiring discipline and reflection,” a spokesperson stated.

The announcement has generated mixed reactions. While some residents support the decision as a reinforcement of moral standards, others expressed concerns about mobility and economic impact.

Transport operators warned that reduced hours may affect livelihoods, particularly for riders dependent on daily earnings. Commuters also raised questions about access to essential services.

Security officials said they would collaborate with Hisbah personnel to ensure peaceful enforcement.

Observers say the development reflects ongoing debates about balancing religious regulations with economic and social realities.
