APC legacy stakeholders in Kano State have submitted three nominees to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for consideration as the new Deputy Governor following the resignation of Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo on March 27, 2026.

The names submitted include Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, and Murtala Sule Garo, according to a statement issued on Sunday in Kano by Magaji Umar Gwammaja.

Gwammaja said the nomination process was part of efforts to fill the vacant position with experienced leaders capable of supporting effective governance in the state.

He described Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi as a seasoned administrator with extensive experience in both state and federal roles, noting that his background positions him strongly for the role.

He also highlighted Kabiru Alhassan Rurum’s legislative experience, saying it would be an advantage in strengthening executive–legislative coordination in the state. Murtala Sule Garo, he added, has long-standing service in local government administration and the state executive council.

According to Gwammaja, the list of nominees will be forwarded to security agencies for screening to ensure they meet the required standards for public office.

He further explained that after security clearance, Governor Yusuf is expected to consult with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of broader political and governance alignment.

“This step will ensure national synergy and political alignment,” Gwammaja said. “After these high-level consultations, the governor will transmit the final selected name to the Kano State House of Assembly for formal screening and confirmation in accordance with constitutional provisions.”

The development comes as political stakeholders in Kano intensify consultations over the vacant deputy governorship seat, which has attracted significant attention within the state’s political landscape.

The final appointment will be subject to approval by the state assembly after due legislative screening processes are completed.
