The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has insisted that the ongoing strike by FCT workers can only be resolved through dialogue, dismissing threats and pressure tactics as counterproductive.
Wike stated this while reacting to developments surrounding the industrial action, which has disrupted services in parts of the nation’s capital. He said the FCT Administration remains open to reasonable negotiations but would not succumb to intimidation or misinformation.
According to the minister, issues raised by the workers are already being examined within the framework of existing laws and financial realities. He stressed that sustainable agreements must be based on facts and mutual understanding rather than ultimatums.
The strike, organised by labour unions, centres on demands for improved welfare, salary adjustments, and the implementation of agreed benefits. Union leaders have accused the FCT Administration of delaying action, a claim the minister refuted.

Wike said several meetings had been held with labour representatives and that progress was being made before the strike escalated. He urged union leaders to return to the negotiation table in the interest of residents affected by the disruption.
Analysts warn that prolonged industrial action could strain essential services in the capital, calling for compromise on both sides. Residents have also appealed for a swift resolution, citing the impact on healthcare, sanitation, and public administration.
The minister reaffirmed his commitment to workers’ welfare but cautioned that governance requires balancing competing demands within available resources. He expressed confidence that dialogue would eventually lead to a mutually acceptable solution.
