Hope Uzodimma

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has urged citizens and residents to remain vigilant and committed to maintaining peace and security across the state. The call was made during his New Year address to the people of Imo on Thursday morning, as he reflected on the progress and stability achieved in recent years.

Speaking to a wide audience, the Governor expressed optimism that 2026 would be a year of growth and tangible results for the state. He highlighted that peace has returned to Imo State after years of challenges and conflicts, but warned that not everyone is pleased with the progress being recorded.

“For us in Imo, 2026 is the year our foundations yield a massive harvest,” Uzodimma stated. “However, as we enjoy the peace and tranquillity that now pervades our landscape, we must work consciously to sustain it. We must not lose sight of the fact that there are still those who are unhappy with the progress of our state; perennial enemies of growth who may try to take us back to darker years.”

The Governor’s address emphasized the collective responsibility of residents to uphold the peace and security that have been restored. He called on community leaders, youth groups, and civil society organisations to collaborate with state authorities in ensuring that stability remains a defining feature of life in Imo State.

Uzodimma also reflected on the state’s achievements over the past year, noting improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic development. He credited these advancements to the commitment of his administration and the cooperation of the people. However, he cautioned that continued progress requires vigilance, discipline, and the sustained engagement of all stakeholders.

The Governor’s warning comes amid concerns about pockets of unrest and the potential for criminal elements to exploit any lapse in security. Uzodimma reassured citizens that his government remains proactive in addressing threats to peace, including strengthening law enforcement, community policing initiatives, and conflict prevention mechanisms.

Uzodimma encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities and to participate in programmes aimed at fostering social cohesion and reducing tensions. He underscored that sustainable development and economic growth are only possible in an environment where peace and security are guaranteed.

As he concluded his address, the Governor expressed confidence that with unity, vigilance, and determination, Imo State can continue its trajectory of progress and serve as a model of peace and development in Nigeria. He urged residents to embrace the New Year with optimism, while remaining mindful of the collective effort required to preserve the hard-earned peace.

The New Year address signals the Governor’s commitment to a secure and prosperous 2026, setting the tone for governance, citizen engagement, and societal responsibility in Imo State for the months ahead.
