Troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force and other hybrid forces, have killed eight suspected terrorists during a coordinated night ambush in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

A military source disclosed that the operation was carried out at about 2:06 a.m. on April 1 around the Gadangari area, behind Government Girls Secondary School in Bama. The ambush was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt Boko Haram logistics networks and prevent the movement of supplies to insurgent hideouts.

According to the source, the troops had positioned themselves strategically after intelligence indicated that suspected Boko Haram collaborators and logistics suppliers were planning to move through the Yale axis under the cover of darkness.

“While lying in wait, the troops intercepted terrorists’ collaborators and logistics suppliers moving towards Yale axis,” the source said.

A brief but intense exchange of gunfire ensued when the suspects encountered the ambush, resulting in the killing of eight of them. Several others reportedly escaped the scene with suspected gunshot wounds, taking advantage of the darkness to flee.

Military authorities said the operation was part of sustained clearance and interdiction missions aimed at weakening insurgent supply chains and restricting their freedom of movement across parts of Borno State, which remains a major hotspot in the country’s counterinsurgency campaign.

Security sources added that follow-up operations have been intensified in the area to track fleeing suspects and recover any abandoned weapons or supplies. Patrols have also been reinforced along identified routes used by insurgent collaborators to prevent regrouping.

The military reiterated its commitment to restoring lasting peace in the North-East, urging residents to continue providing credible intelligence to support ongoing operations against terrorist elements.

Borno State has remained the epicentre of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) activities for over a decade, despite significant territorial gains made by Nigerian forces in recent years.

Authorities say coordinated operations involving the military and local security networks remain critical in sustaining pressure on insurgent groups and dismantling their logistics infrastructure across the region.
