President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Christians and Muslims to use the coinciding observance of Lent and Ramadan to deepen national unity, promote peace, and pray for Nigeria’s progress and security.
In a message marking the start of both sacred seasons on Tuesday, the President described the rare alignment as a reminder that Nigerians of different faiths share common spiritual values and remain one people under God.
He noted that for Christians, Lent represents a period of fasting, abstinence, and penitence in line with the example of Jesus Christ before His crucifixion, while Ramadan for Muslims symbolizes submission to God, sacrifice, devotion, and compassion for others, forming a central pillar of Islamic faith and practice.
The President urged citizens to reflect the moral teachings of their religions through good neighbourliness and a renewed commitment to unity and stability, especially at a time the nation seeks collective progress.
He encouraged both communities to allow the lessons of discipline, service, and love associated with the seasons to guide their conduct toward one another and strengthen national harmony.
The President also prayed that the blessings and spiritual benefits of the twin observances would endure beyond the fasting periods and positively shape the country’s future.
