President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated a high-level Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation to address internal disputes within the All Progressives Congress as the ruling party positions itself for the 2027 general elections.

The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday in Lagos and is expected to strengthen unity, manage grievances and enhance mobilisation across the party’s structures nationwide. It is chaired by Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, with former APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire, serving as Member and Secretary.

Members of the committee include key figures within the party, notably governors, members of the Federal Executive Council and other influential stakeholders. Among them are Senator Adamu Aliero; the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma; as well as Governors Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Umar Namadi of Jigawa, Bassey Otu of Cross River, Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State.

Also appointed to the committee are Governors Uba Sani of Kaduna and Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers; the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; and former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Buni expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the party leadership for the confidence reposed in him and other members, assuring that the committee would discharge its responsibilities with commitment and a strong sense of duty.

According to him, the committee will focus on broad consultations and strategic engagement aimed at developing a durable framework for managing conflicts and strengthening internal cohesion within the APC.

“The committee will engage in strategic engagements and consultations to develop an all-encompassing, productive and result-oriented strategy that will stand the test of time,” Buni said. “We shall implement a system that gives everyone, especially aggrieved parties, a sense of belonging and inclusion, with renewed hope.”

He added that the committee would also adopt proactive approaches to conflict resolution by identifying potential threats early and proposing workable solutions before they escalate.

Buni urged members to place the collective interest of the party above personal considerations, stressing that unity and discipline were critical as the APC navigates the next political cycle.

“We must not allow personal interest and sentiments to override the general interest and purpose for which this committee is constituted,” he said.

The inauguration follows President Tinubu’s earlier call for unity and tolerance within the APC at the party’s 15th National Executive Committee meeting held on December 19 at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. At the meeting, the President warned against internal divisions and reminded party leaders of the values upon which the APC was founded.

Tinubu emphasised that the ruling party must remain committed to progressive ideals, inclusive participation and respect for differing opinions if it hopes to sustain democratic governance.

“We must continue to be resolute that this democracy that we take in our hands must not fail,” the President said at the NEC meeting. “We say we are bigger. We are larger and taller. But it should now be in our hearts to be accommodating. That’s the only way we can be resilient. We must be tolerant.”

Political observers see the formation of the committee as a strategic move to stabilise the party ahead of a crucial election cycle, especially amid emerging fault lines in some states. With prominent party leaders drawn from across regions and interests, expectations are high that the committee will play a key role in shaping the APC’s internal harmony and electoral readiness ahead of 2027.
