Tinubu To Embark On G20, AU-EU Mission

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Lagos for Europe as part of his end-of-year break, ahead of an official engagement in the United Arab Emirates where he is expected to participate in a major global sustainability forum.

The President left Nigeria on Sunday, December 28, and will proceed from Europe to Abu Dhabi in early January following an invitation from the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Tinubu is scheduled to attend the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) Summit, a high-level international gathering focused on advancing sustainable development.

Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is a weeklong global platform that convenes leaders from government, business, technology, and civil society to address pressing development challenges and shape strategies for a more sustainable future. The summit is regarded as one of the world’s leading forums on climate action, energy transition, and sustainable innovation.

The 2026 edition of the summit will be held under the theme, “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go,” and is expected to emphasize practical solutions that link ambition with action across innovation, finance, and human capital. Organisers say the focus will be on how governments and institutions can accelerate progress while building resilience and confidence in global development systems.

President Tinubu’s participation underscores Nigeria’s continued engagement with international partners on issues of sustainability, energy transition, climate resilience, and economic development. The visit also provides an opportunity for bilateral discussions on investment, technology, and strategic cooperation between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates.

According to the Presidency, the President will return to Nigeria after the conclusion of the summit.

The statement announcing the President’s travel was signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, and dated December 28, 2025.
