President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, on his appointment to the Royal Victorian Order by His Majesty King Charles III, describing the honour as a recognition of service that aligns with Nigeria’s commitment to youth development and national renewal.
Mr Edun was appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) in recognition of his longstanding contributions to the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, a global youth development initiative that supports young people in building character, leadership skills and a sense of responsibility. The award programme operates in several countries, including Nigeria, where thousands of young people currently benefit from its activities.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu welcomed the honour bestowed on the minister, noting that it reflects positively on Nigeria and underscores the value of sustained service to youth empowerment on the global stage.
The President described Edun as a pivotal member of his cabinet, whose international recognition reinforces the administration’s focus on creating opportunities for young people and equipping them with the skills required to contribute meaningfully to national development. He added that the honour was consistent with his government’s broader agenda of investing in human capital as a foundation for economic growth and social progress.

He noted that the minister’s involvement with the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award over the years has helped to positively shape the lives of many young Nigerians, fostering discipline, leadership and civic responsibility.
According to the statement, the President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to policies and programmes aimed at empowering the youth, describing them as leaders not only of the future but of today. He stressed that nurturing young people remains central to achieving sustainable development and ensuring long-term national stability.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, founded in 1956, is one of the world’s leading youth achievement programmes, operating in over 130 countries. In Nigeria, the scheme has continued to expand, providing structured opportunities for personal development through community service, skills acquisition, physical recreation and adventurous journeys.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the recognition of Mr Edun by the British monarch would further inspire Nigerians in public service and beyond to commit themselves to excellence, integrity and service to humanity.
The statement was dated December 30, 2025, and signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
