President Bola Tinubu has expressed sympathy to traders and residents of Kano State following a major fire at the city’s Singer Market over the weekend.
The fire, which broke out on Saturday evening and continued into Sunday morning, caused extensive damage to the food market, destroying shops and goods. Authorities say the blaze came less than two weeks after a previous fire at the same market, raising concerns about recurring safety hazards.
President Tinubu, who contacted Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for a detailed report on the incident, described the situation as tragic and expressed concern for the affected traders.
In response, the President has directed a comprehensive investigation into the causes of the market fires, emphasizing the need to prevent future incidents that disrupt commerce and livelihoods.
The move underscores the federal government’s commitment to supporting market traders and ensuring the safety of commercial hubs across Nigeria.
