President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday commended Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, for his sustained investments in education, healthcare and transportation, describing the projects as critical to improving the lives of residents of the state.

The President spoke in Maiduguri during an official visit as part of his three-state tour of Borno, Bauchi and Lagos states. While in Borno, Tinubu commissioned several major projects, including the international wing and VIP extension of the Muhammadu Buhari Airport, newly introduced electric vehicles, intra-state buses, tricycles, and three model schools covering primary, junior secondary and senior secondary education.

Speaking at the commissioning of the schools, the President reaffirmed the importance of education to national development. “I am commissioning this primary, junior secondary school and senior secondary schools to the glory of God, and continuous education of our children,” Tinubu said.

The visit also featured a cultural highlight, as the President attended the marriage ceremony of Sadeeq Sheriff, son of former Borno State Governor and Senator, Ali Modu Sheriff, and Hadiza Kam Salem. In line with Kanuri tradition, President Tinubu stood in as the father of the groom, while Governor Zulum represented the bride’s family and received the traditional bride price, presented in gold coins.

The wedding ceremony was hosted by the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, at the Maiduguri Central Mosque.

Several dignitaries attended the events, including governors Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina, Agbu Kefas of Taraba, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa, and Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun. Senators, ministers and other top government officials were also present.

President Tinubu departed Maiduguri at about 3.25 pm for Bauchi State to continue his official tour.
