President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday signed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2025 into law, following its passage by the National Assembly of Nigeria, marking a key development in the country’s electoral reform process.
The brief signing ceremony took place around 5:00pm at the President’s first floor office at the **State House Abuja**, with principal officers of the legislature in attendance.
The amendment comes amid intense public debate over provisions relating to the electronic transmission of election results in real time. Lawmakers had on Tuesday passed the Electoral Act 2026 (Amendment) Bill after adopting a harmonised report that retained the contentious Section 60(3).
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, confirmed the development shortly after the ceremony. He told journalists that the President had appended his signature to the amendment bill passed by lawmakers a day earlier.
Further details of the amendments are expected to be released by relevant authorities.
