The Presidency has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has replaced his Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, with the Principal Private Secretary, Hakeem MuMuri-Okunola.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, described the claim as a complete fabrication and urged Nigerians to disregard it entirely.
According to the statement, President Tinubu has not made any changes to the position of Chief of Staff, stressing that Gbajabiamila remains firmly in office. It also clarified that Muri-Okunola continues to serve in his role as Principal Private Secretary and has not been appointed to replace anyone.
“There is absolutely no truth to this story,” the Presidency said, adding that both officials are carrying out their respective duties without any alteration to their appointments.
The Presidency attributed the viral report to what it described as “mischievous purveyors of fake news” whose intention is to sow confusion and create disharmony within the government. It warned that such unverified claims undermine public trust and distract from governance.
The statement further called on media organisations and social media users to exercise responsibility by verifying information before publication or sharing, especially when it concerns sensitive issues of state and senior government appointments.
Gbajabiamila, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, was appointed Chief of Staff to the President in June 2023 and has since been a key figure in coordinating the activities of the Presidency. Muri-Okunola, who previously served as Head of Service in Lagos State, was appointed Principal Private Secretary to the President around the same period.
The Presidency reiterated its commitment to transparency and accurate communication, urging the public to rely on official sources for credible information on government affairs.
The statement was signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, and dated December 25, 2025.
