The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested a suspected serial rapist following reports of multiple sexual assault incidents in parts of the state.
The suspect was apprehended during a coordinated operation by operatives of the command after complaints were lodged by victims and residents, prompting an investigation into the alleged crimes. Police sources said the arrest followed credible intelligence and sustained surveillance.
According to the police, the suspect is believed to be responsible for a series of rape cases reported in recent weeks, which had caused fear and anxiety among residents, particularly women and young girls. The arrest, the command noted, is part of ongoing efforts to curb sexual and gender-based violence in the state.
Spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the development, stating that preliminary investigations are ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspect’s involvement in the alleged offences. The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The police further disclosed that efforts are being made to identify additional victims and possible accomplices, if any, while forensic and medical evidence is being reviewed to support prosecution.

The command reassured the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to promptly report cases of sexual abuse and other criminal activities. It also encouraged victims to speak out, assuring them of confidentiality and support throughout the investigative process.
Community leaders in the affected areas welcomed the arrest, describing it as a significant step toward restoring public confidence and deterring similar crimes.
