The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has paid a condolence visit to Nigerian-born boxing superstar, Anthony Joshua, following a fatal road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that claimed two lives.

The accident, which occurred on Monday, December 29, threw the sports community into mourning after Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, and his personal trainer, Kevin Latif Ayodele, lost their lives. Joshua, a former world heavyweight boxing champion, survived the crash.

Hon. Olopade, who visited the boxer on behalf of the Chairman of the Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and the entire NSC workforce, described the incident as tragic and deeply heartbreaking. He expressed gratitude to God for Joshua’s survival while sympathizing with the families of the deceased.

Speaking during the visit, the NSC Director General conveyed the condolences of the Nigerian sports family, noting that the loss goes beyond boxing and is a painful moment for sports lovers nationwide.

“On behalf of the National Sports Commission and the entire Nigerian sports family, I express our heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in this unfortunate accident,” Olopade said.

He added, “We thank God for sparing the life of Anthony Joshua. Our thoughts and prayers are with him during this difficult time, and we wish him a full and speedy recovery.”

Hon. Olopade also used the occasion to call attention to the need for improved road safety, urging motorists to exercise caution and responsibility at all times to prevent avoidable tragedies.

The visit highlighted a rare moment of compassion and solidarity within Nigeria’s sports leadership, as the Commission stood with one of the nation’s most celebrated athletes during a time of personal loss and grief.
