Nigeria  has maintained its position in the December 2025 FIFA men’s world rankings, remaining 38th globally, according to the latest update released on Thursday.

The Super Eagles’ unchanged standing reflects a stable run of results during the review period, with no significant shift in ranking points to alter their global placement. While several teams around Nigeria experienced minor movements, the country held firm among the world’s top 40 football nations.

On the African continent, Nigeria continues to rank among the leading footballing nations, reinforcing its reputation as a consistent force in international football. The Super Eagles’ position keeps them well placed ahead of key continental rivals as preparations continue for upcoming competitive fixtures and qualification campaigns.

Football analysts note that retaining the same global ranking suggests a balance between positive performances and missed opportunities for upward movement. Friendly matches and competitive fixtures during the assessment window were not sufficient to generate the points boost needed for a climb up the table, but also prevented any drop.

The FIFA rankings are calculated based on match results, the importance of games played, strength of opposition, and confederation weighting. As such, Nigeria’s steady ranking underscores the importance of securing wins in high-stakes matches to improve global standing in future updates.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has repeatedly emphasized long-term team development, youth integration, and tactical consistency as part of efforts to strengthen the Super Eagles ahead of major tournaments. Supporters will be hoping that upcoming international windows provide opportunities for the team to gain valuable ranking points.

Globally, the December rankings saw limited movement among top-tier teams, as many national sides played fewer matches toward the end of the year.

Nigeria’s next set of competitive and friendly fixtures will be crucial in determining whether the Super Eagles can translate performances into ranking progress when FIFA releases its next update in 2026.
