The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed that its C-130 transport aircraft has safely resumed its ferry flight to Portugal for scheduled maintenance after making a precautionary landing, with all personnel onboard reported safe and the aircraft fully serviceable.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Air Force said the aircraft successfully transited Accra, Ghana, and is currently on the ground in Banjul, The Gambia, as it continues its planned route to Portugal. The precautionary landing was described as a routine safety measure taken in line with standard aviation protocols.

NAF officials stressed that the decision to land was purely preventive and did not involve any emergency or mechanical failure. Following technical checks and clearance, the aircraft was certified fit to continue its journey.

“The aircraft and crew are in good condition, and the mission is progressing as planned,” the statement said, reassuring the public that there was no cause for concern.

The C-130, a key component of the Nigerian Air Force’s airlift capability, was en route for scheduled maintenance abroad, a routine process aimed at ensuring operational readiness, safety, and longevity of the platform.

The Air Force noted that ferry flights for maintenance are conducted under strict safety regulations, with multiple stopovers often planned to allow for refuelling, crew rest, and technical assessments.

NAF also commended the professionalism of its aircrew and maintenance personnel, whose adherence to safety procedures ensured a smooth continuation of the flight.

Reiterating its commitment to transparency and flight safety, the Nigerian Air Force assured Nigerians that all its operations, both domestic and international, prioritise the protection of personnel and equipment.

The aircraft is expected to proceed to Portugal after completing its scheduled stop in Banjul, where it will undergo comprehensive maintenance in line with the Air Force’s fleet sustainment programme.
