Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has been honoured with the ‘Governor of the Year’ award at the 10th Annual Face of Africa Leadership Awards held in London, United Kingdom.
The event, organised by Triangle Media International Magazine at the Grand Hall of King’s College, recognised outstanding leaders in both public and private sectors for their impact on governance and service delivery.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the award acknowledges the strides recorded by the Zamfara State government since Lawal assumed office on May 29, 2023.
The statement noted that the recognition reflects the governor’s commitment to revitalising the state under his “Rescue and Rebuild” agenda, despite inheriting a depleted treasury.
Key achievements highlighted include the declaration of a state of emergency in the education sector as part of efforts to tackle insecurity, the payment of N3.4 billion in outstanding WAEC and NECO fees, and the reconstruction and rehabilitation of schools across all 14 local government areas of the state.
“The international magazine finds these initiatives to be strategic interventions toward long-term efforts to make Zamfara State better,” the statement added.
The 10th edition of the awards, themed “Harnessing the Roles of Nigerians in Diaspora for National Development,” drew participation from stakeholders across sectors, including the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and Sahara Group GMD, Kola Adesina.
