Klint Da Drunk Reveals Why He Abandoned Music for Comedy

Popular Nigerian comedian Klint Da Drunk has opened up on the defining moment that pushed him to abandon his early dreams of becoming a musician and instead pursue a career in comedy.

The entertainer made the revelation during a recent interview on Naija FM Lagos, where he reflected on his early days as a student at the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Enugu.

According to Klint Da Drunk, known for his unique drunken-character stage persona, he was initially committed to building a music career while studying at IMT. He frequently performed at campus shows, believing music would eventually become his breakthrough path in the entertainment industry.

However, his aspirations changed after witnessing a captivating performance by Afrobeat icon 2Face Idibia, who at the time was also a student at IMT. Klint said the experience made him realize he could not match the musical talent and stage dominance displayed by 2Face, prompting him to reconsider his career direction.

“I wanted to be a musician. I was pushing music seriously while in school,” he recalled. “But the day I saw 2Face perform on campus, I knew immediately that music was not for me. I just told myself, ‘O boy, leave this thing. You no fit do am pass this guy.’ And that was it.”

Klint explained that the moment was not discouraging but instead an eye-opener that helped him discover his true calling. He noted that comedy came naturally to him, and as he continued performing at events, audiences responded more to his humorous acts than his music.

“When I switched to comedy, everything just aligned. People enjoyed it more, and the opportunities kept coming,” he said. “Sometimes, you need that one moment that helps you understand where you truly belong.”

Since making the switch, Klint Da Drunk has built a successful career spanning decades, becoming one of Nigeria’s most recognized comedy acts. His innovative character style and stage presence helped shape modern Nigerian stand-up comedy during its early development in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The comedian emphasised that discovering one’s strengths early is key to long-lasting success in any field. He encouraged young entertainers to remain open to change, listen to feedback, and embrace opportunities that align with their natural talents.

Klint’s revelation has sparked admiration from fans, many of whom praised him for his humility and self-awareness in choosing a career path that has since made him a household name.
