Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered an immediate manhunt following the brutal killing of a mother and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano metropolis.

The governor described the attack as “barbaric, senseless, and wholly unacceptable,” vowing that justice would be served.

The tragic incident, which occurred on Saturday, claimed the lives of Fatima Abubakar and her six children after unidentified assailants reportedly forced their way into the family home. Authorities recovered the victims’ bodies and conveyed them to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital for post-mortem examinations, while the Kumbotso Police Division launched investigations into the heinous act.

Speaking through his spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, Governor Yusuf extended his condolences to the bereaved family, residents of Dorayi Chiranchi, and the wider Kano community. “The killing of a mother and her innocent children is a grave assault on our shared humanity,” the statement read. The governor also called on security agencies to act swiftly to apprehend those responsible and ensure they face the full weight of the law.

Governor Yusuf instructed the Kano State Police Command to intensify efforts to track down the suspects. Additionally, the Kano State Neighbourhood Corps was directed to heighten patrols and bolster community surveillance, particularly in areas deemed vulnerable to criminal activities. Residents were urged to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities promptly, and cooperate with authorities to enhance security across the state.

Local sources described the attack as shocking and unprecedented in the area, noting that the assailants left no immediate trace after committing the crime.

Security agencies have since been deployed to canvass the community, gather evidence, and interview witnesses in a bid to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The governor’s swift response underscores his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property in Kano, reinforcing a zero-tolerance stance on violent crimes. Authorities have also assured the public that coordinated efforts will continue until those behind the attack are arrested and prosecuted.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through Kano State, with residents expressing fear and demanding stronger measures to prevent similar attacks in the future.
