In a powerful display of cross-border solidarity, the Delta State Government has stepped forward to support a daring humanitarian mission aimed at easing the burden of cancer patients across Nigeria. On Thursday, the state presented a ₦10 million check to Miss Chineyenwa Judith Amadi, an Imo State-born advocate who has been making global headlines with her “A Ride for Life” initiative.
The presentation, held at the Conference Hall of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in Asaba, celebrates Amadi’s extraordinary advocacy efforts, which included a solo motorbike journey across 16 countries to raise awareness and funds for those battling the disease.
Solidarity in the Face of Devastation
Presenting the donation on behalf of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, described cancer as one of the most destructive health crises facing modern society. He emphasized that the Governor’s directive to support Amadi was a “statement of solidarity” with the victims of the disease and their families.
“This is our contribution and our commitment to humanity,” Dr. Emu stated, noting that cancer creates a ripple effect of suffering that touches entire communities and strains the healthcare system. He lauded Amadi’s courage, noting that her transcontinental ride serves as a beacon of hope and a vital source of information for the public.
New Cancer Facility on the Horizon
Beyond the financial donation, Dr. Emu revealed a long-term plan to bolster Delta State’s own medical infrastructure. The government is currently taking steps to establish a dedicated cancer treatment facility within the state. The goal is to ensure that residents can access specialized, high-quality care locally, removing the added stress and cost of traveling long distances for life-saving therapy.
Supporting this vision, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, reminded the public that the best weapon against cancer is early intervention. He urged residents, particularly women, to prioritize routine screenings for breast and cervical cancer, which remain the most effective ways to reduce risks and save lives.
A Personal Mission for Survival
For Miss Amadi, the ₦10 million boost is more than just a donation it is a lifeline for patients who have reached the end of their financial resources. She shared that her passion for “A Ride for Life” was forged in the fire of personal loss and current struggle.
“This journey is deeply personal for me,” Amadi said, her voice filled with emotion. “I have lost loved ones to cancer and seen others survive it. Currently, I am very close to someone battling the disease, and that experience is what truly inspired this project.”

Community Health Outreach in Orerokpe
In a parallel boost to the state’s health sector, the Texas Elites Forum recently wrapped up its 2025 year-end outreach in the Orerokpe community. Partnering with the Grace Oghoghorie Foundation, the group provided a four-day medical intervention from December 27 to 30.
The initiative saw over 1,300 residents receive free medical consultations, essential drugs, and diagnostic tests at the Orerokpe Primary Health Care Centre. These dual efforts, the government’s high-level advocacy and the civic group’s grassroots outreach highlight a growing, multi-layered front against disease in Delta State.
