Bago: Kasuwan Daji Attack Cuts Across Faiths, Communities

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has confirmed that victims of the terrorist attack at Kasuwan Daji market were Muslims and Christians drawn from different communities across the state.

Governor Bago made this known while briefing journalists on Monday, stressing that the attack was not directed at any religion or ethnic group but was a violent assault on innocent residents carrying out their daily activities.

He explained that those affected included traders, shoppers, and passersby who were present at the busy market when the attackers struck, leading to loss of lives and injuries. According to him, security agencies are still working to compile an accurate list of casualties, while efforts continue to account for those yet to be found.

Condemning the incident, the governor described the attack as a cowardly act designed to instill fear and disrupt the peaceful coexistence of communities in the state. He urged residents to remain calm and united, warning against allowing the tragedy to be exploited to create religious or communal divisions.

Governor Bago said security has been reinforced around Kasuwan Daji market and other strategic locations across Niger State. He added that intelligence-driven operations are ongoing to track down those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.

The governor also expressed condolences to the families of the victims and assured that the state government would provide support to the injured, including medical care and relief assistance. He called on religious and community leaders to promote peace and solidarity as investigations continue.

The Kasuwan Daji market attack has renewed concerns over public safety in Niger State, highlighting the continued threat posed by insecurity and the urgent need for sustained security measures.
