Twenty-five students of the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, have been abducted, and the school’s Vice Principal was tragically killed in a violent attack that has shocked the nation.
The incident, which occurred recently, has drawn condemnation from national leaders and raised urgent calls for swift action to secure the girls’ release.
In a statement expressing grief and solidarity with the victims, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, First Lady of Nigeria, described the abduction and killing as “heartbreaking” and an attack not only on innocent students and dedicated educators but also on the values of safety and learning that schools are meant to uphold.
“Mr. President has already ordered our security agencies to ensure the quick and safe return of the abducted girls and to bring the perpetrators to justice,” she said, urging all stakeholders to cooperate in rescue efforts.
The First Lady extended her heartfelt condolences and prayers to the families, friends, and schoolmates of the victims. “My heart and prayers are with the families, friends, loved ones, and schoolmates at this time. I pray Almighty God grants quick rescue to the abducted girls and may the soul of the departed Vice Principal rest in Aljannah Firdaus,” she added.
Security forces in Kebbi State, alongside federal agencies, are reportedly conducting intensive search and rescue operations in the area. Residents have been urged to provide any information that could aid in the safe recovery of the students.
This incident adds to the growing concerns over the security of schools in parts of Nigeria, with previous attacks targeting students highlighting the urgent need for effective protective measures. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that schools remain safe spaces for learning and that those responsible for such attacks face justice.
Meanwhile, the local community, civil society groups, and humanitarian organizations are standing by to provide support to the families affected once the students are rescued. The nation continues to pray for the quick and safe return of the 25 girls, hoping that security efforts will bring an end to this tragic ordeal.
