Osimhen

Galatasaray midfielder Lucas Torreira has publicly ranked Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen among the top three footballers in the world today.

The Uruguayan placed the Nigerian international above renowned global stars such as Lamine Yamal, Vinícius Jr., Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.

During an interview with MK News Turkey, the former Arsenal and Atlético Madrid midfielder made the bold assessment by naming Osimhen alongside Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde and Kylian Mbappé as the current best players on the planet.

“Federico Valverde, Kylian Mbappé, and Victor Osimhen are currently the world’s best footballers,” Torreira stated.

The massive endorsement follows a stunning season from the 27 year old forward. Osimhen has scored 19 goals and provided seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions for Galatasaray.

His incredible form has been central to the Turkish club’s push to defend their Süper Lig title. He also played a pivotal role in their impressive run to the Champions League Round of 16, marking the first time a Turkish club has reached that stage in over a decade.

Osimhen’s outstanding performances have predictably drawn the attention of several top European clubs. Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Juventus are all reportedly monitoring his situation.

However, a summer move appears unlikely given his record breaking salary, which is currently the highest in Süper Lig history, as well as the warmth he has publicly expressed for life at Galatasaray.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt has added his voice to the growing chorus of admiration. Butt recently urged his former club to pursue a move for the Nigerian forward ahead of the upcoming season.

Raising concerns about United’s current attacking options, Butt suggested that while Benjamin Šeško has potential, he lacks the consistency required to lead the line alone at a club of United’s stature.

“I don’t think Šeško can carry the club up front on his own; they will need another No. 9. I don’t think he needs replacing, but someone better who can lift his game as well,” Butt said during a recent interview.

The former England international identified Osimhen as an ideal candidate for the role, highly praising his physical attributes and his versatile goal scoring ability.

“I know Osimhen isn’t proven in the Premier League, but you look at his physicality and the way he plays football; he can definitely handle it. He’s powerful, quick, can run in behind, strong, and scores different types of goals. He’s good in the air,” Butt added.
