The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains strong and capable of making a political comeback, despite recent internal crises and electoral setbacks.
Speaking at the party’s national convention, Wike said the opposition party is “still alive” and not beyond recovery, urging members to remain committed to rebuilding and repositioning it ahead of future elections.
He noted that while the PDP has faced challenges in recent years, including leadership disputes and declining electoral performance, the party still retains a strong national structure and grassroots support base capable of driving its resurgence.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and one of the party’s influential figures, called for unity among members, stressing that internal divisions had contributed significantly to the party’s recent struggles.

According to him, reconciliation and discipline within the party are key to restoring public confidence and ensuring electoral competitiveness against the ruling party.
The FCT minister reaffirmed his belief in the PDP’s political relevance, saying its history and nationwide spread make it difficult to dismiss it as a fading force.
He urged party leaders and delegates at the convention to focus on rebuilding trust, strengthening internal democracy, and resolving lingering grievances that have affected cohesion within the party.
Wike’s comments come amid ongoing debates about the PDP’s direction and leadership structure following a series of defections and electoral losses in recent cycles.
Despite the setbacks, he insisted that the party still has the capacity to regroup and emerge stronger, provided stakeholders commit to genuine reconciliation and strategic rebuilding.
The national convention continues to serve as a platform for party leaders to chart a new course for the PDP ahead of upcoming political contests.
