Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka may be forced to wait a little longer for his Coventry City debut, with manager Frank Lampard confirming that the player is on standby as his wife prepares to give birth.
The 27-year-old, who joined the Championship leaders on loan from Brentford during the January transfer window, has been integrated into training but remains a doubt for upcoming fixtures due to the impending arrival of his child.
Speaking to reporters, Lampard revealed that while Onyeka has trained with the squad for several days, his family commitments take precedence.
“Well, we hope so. He’s trained with us for a few days. His wife is due to have a baby at any moment now, so we’re managing that situation as it stands,” Lampard explained. “I hope he’ll be involved because we’re hoping for him, of course.”
Onyeka’s arrival is seen as a major boost for Coventry City’s promotion push. The Sky Blues currently sit at the top of the Championship table with 58 points, level with Middlesbrough but ahead on goal difference.

The Nigerian international brings Premier League experience and defensive steel to a midfield that will be crucial in the final stretch of the season.
The loan deal reportedly includes an obligation to buy should Coventry secure promotion back to the top flight, goal Onyeka is eager to help achieve.
“I’m very happy to be here. I’m a strong midfielder, I’m a winner, and I always want to fight for my teammates,” Onyeka said upon signing. “My aim is to give 100 per cent, bring my experience and help the team get promoted to the Premier League and bring glory to the city again.”
Coventry City face a crucial top-of-the-table clash against fellow promotion contenders Middlesbrough on Monday, February 16. Fans will be hoping the “Tank”, as Onyeka is affectionately known, will be available to make his bow in what could be a season-defining match. However, for now, the midfielder remains on baby watch.
